Eddie Fager got a hug from Donna Glass, who declared him "one of the dearest people in the world." Others agree.

Fager was honored by Frontier Management, which owns Boise's Heatherwood Retirement Community where Fager lives.

"It's really amazing. I don't know if I deserve all the platitudes I got," said Fager, who was surprised with a reception, a plaque and special lunch.

Frontier owns/manages 32 communities across the United States that house 2,500 residents. Each community nominated an outstanding, generous resident. Fager was chosen from those nominees.
"He serves others without expecting anything back," regional manager Ron Baker said.

Fager was born in 1916 in Caldwell. He is a volunteer for hospice and has been an active member of Elks, Happy Hoofers, RSVP and Toastmasters. In spite of the fact that he's legally blind, he generously helps residents with chores.

"But most of all, he becomes their friend," Heatherwood manager Kerry Sorensen said.

"It's people like Eddie who make Boise such a wonderful place to live," said Boise City Council President Maryanne Jordan. Mayor Dave Bieter declared Wednesday Lawrence Edgar Fager Day.

Fager said helping is all part of living. "That's what I do: Whatever I can, for everybody I can, for as long as I can. I challenge myself to do that."
